2012 Archive
Feb 22 Today I began work on this Flight section of my website.  I also added a separate Flight forum to Arwen's Realm (my forum, where users can get help and discuss Flight with other users.

I was a Beta Tester for Flight from Jan 5th to Feb 14, 2012 (when the beta testing ended). This was a closed beta, so I am still bound by my Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) until Flight is released (on Feb 29th), which is why my Flight section will not be online until the 29th.

Feb 28 Flight was released today, which was a day early!  And this section of my website is now online.
Feb 29 A lot of people are trying to download Flight at the moment.  The best place to download Flight is from here: http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/
Apr 19 Why I resigned as a moderator on AVSIM's Flight forum: I felt that I no longer had any choice, after I posted that I agreed completely with what another member had posted concerning his feelings about the direction that Flight (and the forum) were apparently heading (the post was not very flattering to either). I also stated that if Flight did not begin expanding on its simulation aspects (as opposed to just the gaming aspects), that I would not be staying with Flight, but would move on (this would happen sometime in the distant future, if I ever felt that Flight would never be anything more than a simplified flightsim/game).

Then I was criticized by some of Flight's biggest fans for posting such anti-Flight thoughts, and was told that a moderator was held to "higher standards." I was accused of "no longer liking Flight," and my position as a moderator was questioned. And it went downhill from there.

The last sentence of the "Rules and Conditions" of the AVSIM Flight forum is "Your post can only be a request for support, a hint or help for others, or a resource for other FLIGHT enthusiasts to use." This has NEVER been strictly enforced there, yet I was told by a senior moderator that I had to strictly adhere to those rules. Yet when I tried to apply those exact same rules and conditions to a new Flight fan thread (because the original post did not meet the above rules), my post was removed by the senior moderator.

So I have now concluded that the Flight forum "Rules and Conditions" do not apply to post that praise/promote Flight, but only to the posts that criticize Flight. I am a firm believer in treating people as equals, and in respecting the opinions of others . . . even ones that I personally disagree with. So I always tried to be fair and unbiased as a moderator, but after this happened, I felt that I was being told that I had to allow Flight fans to post just about anything, while pretty much restricting any post that criticizes anything about Flight.

I am not willing to do that, so I asked to be removed as a moderator.

2014 Archive
July 15 I finally expanded my Flightsim Journal so that it now includes a new Flightsim Home Page (this page), an updated MS Flight section, and a brand new Prepar3D section (which already includes its own tips page. I'm currently working on a P3D Add-Ons page, which will be followed by a P3D Navigation page.

The main focus will now be on Prepar3D, but I still plan to update my MS Flight section to keep it fairly current.
This new format was designed so that I could expand my Prepar3D section, to cover such things as third party add-ons, as well as some tutorials. [It will also make it easier for me to expand the MS Flight section, if Flight is ever revived/updated].

In Other News:

From Dovetail Games press release (7/9/14): "The award-winning creators of the best-selling Train Simulator franchise have today announced a global licensing deal with Microsoft, granting them the rights to develop and publish all-new flight products based on Microsoft’s genre-defining flight technology. The company is currently investigating new concepts in this area and is expecting to bring a release to market in 2015."

From Microsoft News Updates (7/3/14) - Flight Shutdown Announcement: Microsoft Flight is scheduled to be grounded on October 14, 2014 at which time the multiplayer servers will be shutdown. This will affect online features, such as multiplayer and aerocaches; the single-player experience should remain largely intact. Full News Release link.
