Arwen's Fallout New Vegas Journal
Update 11/10/11: My NV Fantasy Story is on hold
indefinitely. Sorry, but my plate has just
been too full (and getting even fuller). I'm currently
working on a minor update for my NV Realism Tweaks, finally
back actually playing Fallout 3 and writing Chapter 6 of my
"Trials of a Wasteland
Wanderer" (should be available sometime tomorrow),
and working on my Skyrim
Journal (in preparation for the game's release
tomorrow), which will include my Skyrim fantasy story: "Trials
of a Reluctant Dragonborn" (Sorry, but after more
than 2-1/2 years of Fallout's wasteland, I'm ready to be
immersed in The Elder Scrolls again.)
Updated November 12, 2010:
Ok, so now that my FNV
site is nearly a month old, you're probably wonder where
Chapter 1 is. My original intent was to have it done
weeks ago. But that was before I actually began
playing New Vegas. And I really should have know
better than to think that I would be happy with the default
game (after all, the same thing happened with Fallout 3, and
with Oblivion) . . . you think that I would have learned by
now. I guess that's the problem with being an eternal
optimist . . . I actually have this inherent notion that
things get better . . . that developers will learn by their
past mistakes . . . that anything bad will get better.
In a way, I was right, because I do feel that NV is a much
better RPG than FO3 was. What was released was indeed
an improvement . . . it just wasn't enough of an improvement
Ok, so now
what? Am I not going to even write a NV fantasy story, after
all my hype here? Did I just give up and shelf this
If you know
anything at about me, you know that besides being more than
a little quirky, I'm extremely stubborn . . . I don't give
up on anything. Ever. My first thought was that
someone must be working on a New Vegas Overhaul mod . . .
since others likely share some of my feelings that this game
really NEEDS an overhaul. But I could not find any
indication that anyone had any plans to make an Overhaul.
Ok, so this was a few weeks ago, shortly after the game had
been released (did I mention that I'm NOT the most patient
person?). But there were plenty of mods (most of which
were nothing more than game cheats) . . . so why no
The way I saw
it, I had two choices: #1, shelf the game until someone had
completed an overhaul; or #2, make my own overhaul.
The first option would have been perhaps the sensible thing
to do . . . especially since my Fallout 3 overhaul is still
not totally finished (although it is pretty much done).
But I decided to go with the second option . . . and the
deciding factor was that I had initially tried waiting for a
Fallout 3 overhaul, and had never found one that I felt
truly focused on the RPG aspects . . . instead, there seemed
to be way more interest in making the game a better FPS . .
. which was NOT what I wanted. So I ended up making my
means is that I'm spending all of my NV free time modding
and play testing my mod, instead of playing the game.
And I cannot write my fantasy story until I'm actually
playing the game. So all this modding stuff is really
putting a damper on my writing (again!),
I'm going to
try to at least have Chapter 1 up in a week or so, but I
cannot promise that this will happen, as I never know how
much free time I'll have.
October 19, 2010:
putting together this journal before I even began playing Fallout
New Vegas. A large part of my Fallout
Journal will always be my mod list. So at the end
of each "Trials of a New Vegas Girl" chapter will be my Gaming Comments and Tips section -
where I explain how specific mods have added to my gaming experience
for the gameplay that was covered in that chapter.
There will also be a section on role-playing, where I explain
some of my role-playing techniques that have made the game
more immersive for me. My primary goal in writing this
journal is to help other players make Fallout New Vegas
into a better gaming
I love to get
email feedback . . . Writing
is a very slow process for me, and it literally takes me several days
just to write a single chapter . . . so it really helps me to know
efforts in writing this journal are still worth it, or are people getting sick of
my journals by now? What do you think of the rest of my site? Any
suggestions for how I can improve things.
